Frequently Asked Questions

everything you need to know before the needle.

WHAT IS PERMANENT COSMETICS?

Permanent Cosmetics also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is the technique of inserting pigment to resemble flawless, everyday makeup. This is achieved by implanting colored natural pigments into the dermal layer of the skin.

DOES IT HURT?

No! Although I use high grade anesthetic to keep you comfortable during the process, permanent makeup procedures are not completely painless. Every client is different, some will feel vibrating or scratching while others may feel nothing at all. If you are prone to not taking anesthetic easily, let me know and we can adjust and keep things as pain free as possible.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE OF OMBRÉ/POWDER VS. MICROBLADING?

Ombré/Powder brows are performed by machine shading— machine shading is the technique that spreads pixels of pigment to gradually build the desired density and shape of the brows to resemble a soft shaded brow pencil look. This technique can last anywhere from 2-5 years and is recommended for oily skin.

Microblading is performed by a hand tool composed of micro needles to “scratch” pigment into the skin to resemble each individual brow hair. These hair-like strokes are placed between natural hairs to give the brow volume and the illusion of thickness. This technique lasts 1-3 years and is only recommended for dry skin.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

On average permanent makeup lasts 1-5 years depending on your skin type and environmental factors.

DO I HAVE TO PICK MY OWN COLOR?

No, as a trained professional in color theory I can give you expert advice on what would suite you best.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

Generally I block off about 3 hours to map out the perfect shape, choose the ideal color, implant the pigment and go over aftercare procedures.

WHAT IS USED FOR EYELINER & LIP PROCEDURES?

Machine shading is used for both lip blush and eyeliner enhancement. Usually performed with a cartridge with multiple micro needles to pack in color for faster saturation. Healing time is about 1 week long.

WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE?

Immediately after the procedure the pigment will be more bold than desired. During the healing process the brows will get darker, lightly flake off, then new cells cover and hide the pigment which is referred to as the “ghosting stage” but don’t panic, they will reappear the beautiful, soft powdery finish!

The healing process takes about 2 weeks where you cannot expose them to sun, water, sweat, oils, etc.. I provide you with special aftercare wash and ointment to ensure the retention of the pigment. Keep in mind, the better you take care of the tattoo the less work we will have to do at the 6 week touch up. Less work = Less healing time.

IS PERMANENT MAKEUP SAFE DURING PREGNANCY?

No, permanent makeup cannot be performed while pregnant or actively breast feeding. We do not want to risk the safety of the baby. Hormone fluctuations can cause rejection of the pigment, so it is best to wait.
